Back to Tyer List

Aaron Miller has been tying flies since he was 11 years old.

As a birthday gift his parents got him a fly tying kit, like so many others. The materials and instructions weren’t great, but he fell in love instantly. He struggled through basic trout flies for months until his local fly shop held a free introductory lesson to fly tying. He learned all about thread control and basic tying techniques, which set him going on my fly tying path.

Fast forward a couple of years, and he was tying my first salmon fly. He can’t remember where he learned about salmon flies first, but he was soon putting all of my effort into figuring them out. He had a hard time figuring out the basics for a year or two, but eventually settled into trying to tie with more traditional techniques and style, which he continues with. The help of the classicflytying.net community has helped him immensely, and he wouldn’t be where he is now without the help of Robert Verkerk, Anthony Smith, and numerous others.
