IMG-1Mustad — New entry — image 1 Lid label of a size 4 box of Mustad 9262 C Beak Hooks, Key Brand, with the address Oslo-Norway. A hook is taped across the left side, and a handwritten 75 is written over the printed 100.

How to identify it

On the box, look for the model line 9262 C at top center and the red name line Mustad-Beak Hooks below it. A key between the words KEY and BRAND sits at upper left, and a bird-of-prey head with a fishhook fills the upper right corner P.

The size is printed at lower left, as No. 4 on the documented box P. On a loose hook, the two slices on the back of the shank and the in-curved point are the quickest checks against the label P.

The box label gives the specification in abbreviated form: Forged Reversed T. up tap. eye Bronzed, With 2 slices in shank P. T. up tap. eye stands for a turned-up tapered eye, a ring eye whose wire is thinned toward its end. Slices are small barbs raised from the back of the shank P; on bait hooks they help hold the bait in place.

Reversed means the point is offset to the right, viewed from the eye down the shank. The documented photographs show the hook in side view only, so the offset is not visible. The point line reads Hollow Point, though its first letter is unclear on this box P.
