IMG-1Fly Tyers Dungeon — New entry — image 1 Loose hook assigned to specimen S1, shown in side view on ruled paper. It probably belongs with the size 1/0 package, but nothing in the photographs confirms this.

How to identify it

The recorded package prints the name and code together as Big Game MS 100, with the size on the line below P. The maker’s own page spells the code MS100, without a space V.

The arched FTD logo and the web address on the label identify the maker P. The code separates the model from BH200, ST5500, OS700, CARP and PK 25, which the maker lists alongside it V.

The maker lists the finish as black nickel V. The specimen is dark gray-black and glossy; the photograph cannot identify the coating P.

SRC-1OBS-6

The maker lists the MS100 as carbon steel with a stinger-type gap V. It describes the point as slightly offset and upturned V.

The maker gives no direction for the offset. Viewed from the eye down the shank, an offset to the left is kirbed and one to the right is reversed.

On the recorded specimen the shank is straight, smooth and plain from the eye to the start of the bend P. The point is straight and tapered and turns back toward the shank P. A flat side view cannot show offset, so the photograph neither confirms nor rules it out.

Pattern history and manufacturer context

Series

The maker lists the MS100 in a line of six big game hooks that share one size list, #8 to #7/0. Size #1/0 is on the list, which does not show which sizes each model comes in V.

The maker states that the hooks on that page are made in China V. No factory, designer or introduction date is documented.

Fly Tyers Dungeon — A November 2024 article says the maker's owner added hooks to the product line about a year earlier V. It names no model, size or year, so it does not date the MS 100. Read the maker’s history →
