How to identify it
The size 1 specimen carries no maker’s mark on the wire, and no Daiichi packet was photographed with it P. A loose hook of this pattern is identified by form, so it is best matched against a packaged, labeled 2271 of the same size I.
On the specimen, the cut end of the loop’s return wire shows as a small step on top of the shank, a short distance behind the eye P.
Technical profile and measurements
| Feature | Recorded | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Eye | Looped Eye, Turned DownShow noteHide noteThe return wire runs along the top of the shank, touching it at one short point with a hairline gap elsewhere P. The eye drops about 30 degrees E. | OBS-1OBS-2OBS-3 |
| Wire | Heavy (1X Heavy), Forged | SRC-1SRC-2SRC-3 |
| Shank | 4X Long — Plain | |
| Bend | Limerick, Narrow gapShow noteHide noteAsymmetric: a broad curve leads from the shank into a nearly straight rear section and tightens at the bottom, where the wire turns forward into the point P. | OBS-5 |
| Point | Standard / SpearShow noteHide noteOne small, raised cut barb on the inner side of the point P. | OBS-7 |
| Finish | stated on packagingShow noteHide noteGlossy black coating over the whole hook, eye and point included P; dealers list a black finish V. The coating process is not identified. | OBS-8SRC-1SRC-3 |
The point is straight, with a long, even conical taper to a fine tip, and lies roughly parallel to the shank P. The shank is straight and plain P.
The photographs show the hook only in side view. Forging at the bend and any offset of the point cannot be seen in them.

Collecting and buying
Easy to find as new stock and sought for tying, with little collector interest; this places it low in the common band I.
Basis: Offered new by several US fly-tying dealers and an online seller in 2026 V.
New packs were listed by US fly-tying dealers and an online seller in 2026, and one listing reported 85 sold V. That availability places the model in the common band.
One dealer showed the hook as sold out, and the online listing showed size 2 out of stock V. These are stock gaps at single sellers I.
No sold results are recorded, so no value range is given. New 10-hook packs were listed at US $10.99 in August 2026, and one US fly shop listed the hook at US $6.50 and showed it as sold out V.
Where to find
