O. Mustad & Søn Qual. 37352 Mustad-Aberdeen Hooks, No. 6, Nickelplated. A long-shank, light-wire Aberdeen bait hook with a turned-down ball eye and a point bent in toward the shank, in an original 100-count Key Brand box labeled “Oslo – Norway.” The label states the eye, point, and finish in words V. The round Aberdeen bend, long shank, and bright silver-grey nickel finish are visible on the specimen P. Packaging evidence suggests production c. 1950-1975 E.
This entry documents mid-century Mustad bait-hook production and an English-language export label of the period. The box has been opened (a hook protrudes from under the lid), so the hook count is not verified. Mustad still makes a fine-wire Aberdeen with a beak point (model 37363), though its relationship to the 37352 is not documented.

Turned Down Ball Eye | Aberdeen | Long Shank | Fine Wire | Point Bent In (Beak) | Nickelled / Nickel-plated
Bend Geometry: Round, evenly curved Aberdeen bend P. The gap measures about 0.26″ (6.7 mm) against an overall length of about 0.93″ (23.5 mm) P. The long shank makes the gap look narrow in proportion, but the gap is ordinary for a No. 6 E.
Point: The label specifies “Point bent in” V: the point is set in toward the shank, as on a beak hook. The barb sits on the inside of the point, set back from the tip P.
Wire: The wire looks light for the size P. A photo estimate against the grid gives about 0.016-0.018″ (0.41-0.46 mm) E. The label states no wire grade, so a specific “1X fine” designation is not documented for this pattern.
Nickel Plating: The label states “Nickelplated” V, and the specimen shows a bright, cool silver-grey surface consistent with nickel P. Nickel plating resists corrosion better than bronzed or blued finishes I.
Ball Eye: Mustad’s “ball eye” is a round ring eye formed from full-diameter wire, as opposed to a tapered eye I. On this hook it is turned down V.

Mustad’s current range still uses the Aberdeen name, including models 3261 and 37363 V. A retailer titles the 37363 “Aberdeen Extra Fine, Point Bent In,” the point description printed on the 37352 box V. No located source says whether 37363 replaced 37352.
The label gives the maker's address as "Oslo - Norway" P, and Kristiania was renamed Oslo effective 1 January 1925 V, so the box was printed in 1925 or later I. A Mustad Key Brand trade catalog is dealer-dated c. 1925 V, so the Key Brand mark does not narrow the date I. This dates the documented box, not the production span of the pattern.
Mustad's hook-making machine was called simply "The Hook Maker" V. Today the company says one in four fishhooks made worldwide is a Mustad V.
The 37352 is an Aberdeen bait hook I: round bend, long shank, light wire, and an inturned point, a combination Mustad still sells for presenting minnows and worms to panfish V. The long shank leaves room to thread worms and other long baits, and light wire keeps the hook small in the bait I. Fly tyers can also use it for light streamers and elongated wet flies I.
| Hook | Match Quality | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mustad 37363 Aberdeen Hook - 1X Fine | Moderate | Same Aberdeen bend and inturned (beaked) point on 1X fine wire. Ringed inline eye instead of a turned-down ball eye; sold in blonde or gold rather than nickelplated V. |
Rated 4.0/10. Mustad Aberdeen bait hooks were made in large numbers I; intact period boxes with legible labels turn up less often than loose hooks E. This box has been opened and its hook count is not verified. Demand comes mainly from general vintage-tackle and Mustad collectors E.
Positive factors: The label is complete, sharply printed, and legible P. Because it describes eye, point, and finish in words, the box can help identify loose hooks of the pattern I.
Limiting factors: By Mustad’s account, the company made half of the world’s fishhooks in the 1950s V. Loose Mustad hooks of many patterns therefore probably survive in quantity I.
Off-white card box with a buff paper label pasted on the front, printed in black and framed by eight-petal rosette ornaments P. At upper left is the Key Brand mark, an outline key with "KEY" above and "BRAND" below; "100" and "No. 6" sit at lower left P. The center column reads: O. MUSTAD & SÖN / Manufacturers / Oslo - Norway / Qual. 37352 / Point bent in / Mustad-Aberdeen Hooks / T. d. ball·eye / Nickelplated / Made in Norway P.
Low ($15): Good condition — original box with lid present, complete hook count, visible age-toning on exterior, printing legible but worn.
High ($35): Excellent condition — original box with minimal wear, sharp printing, all hooks present and bright, minimal external toning.
Premium factors: Sealed or near-sealed boxes (+$10-15 over opened); finishes other than nickel slightly lower; rare sizes (very small or large) command modest premiums; complete tissue or original envelope wrapping (if present) adds $5-10.
Platforms: eBay (UK and US), specialist vintage tackle dealers, occasional tackle fairs and regional auctions.
Confidence: E Estimated. Based on typical realized prices for comparable Mustad production-era boxes in this size and condition range. Limited direct comparable sales data; estimate reflects general category trends for Mustad vintage boxes.

The box label identifies the pattern by the number after “Qual.” and spells out eye, point, and finish in words P. A loose hook with a turned-down ball eye, a point bent in, and a nickelplated finish is consistent with 37352, but without the box the pattern number cannot be confirmed I.
