Summary

Mustad 3101 is a barbed, single-point hook made by O. Mustad & Sön of Norway. Its labels read “Qual. 3101”, “Superior” and “Mustad-Limerick Hooks” P.

Both labels print an Oslo address, which places them in 1925 or later I. No period catalog entry for the model has been located.

Mustad 3101 Limerick Hook — three specimens showing bend profiles — size 2 — bronzed finish
IMG-1Mustad 3101 Limerick Hook Size 2 Specimens Card with three taped hooks under a handwritten note reading 3101 2/0. The upper hook is gold-coloured; the lower two are dark grey-blue and show no eye.

How to identify it

Look for the Key Brand trademark, a skeleton key set between the words Key and Brand, inside a border of rosette ornaments P. The recorded labels print “O. MUSTAD & SÖN”, “OSLO – NORWAY”, “Qual. 3101”, “Superior”, “Mustad-Limerick Hooks”, “Ringed Bronzed” and “Made in Norway” P.

Two typesettings are recorded. One prints MANUFACTURERS in capitals; the other prints “Manufacturers” in mixed case. The size follows “No.” on the label.

Oslo became the city’s name on 1 January 1925, replacing Kristiania V. A label that prints it is therefore no earlier than 1925 I. On the hook, look for a ring eye in line with the shank and a barb cut from the inner face of the point P.

OBS-6OBS-13LBL-3LBL-9

The Superior point has a near-straight inner face running from the barb to the tip, and a gently concave outer edge P. Fine diagonal cross-hatch tool marks show on the flank of the point at sizes 2 and 9/0 P.

The shank is plain, straight and round, with no kink, bend or knurling, a textured band cut into the wire P. Compared with other hooks traced for this reference, the shank proportion falls nearest the 1X long group, meaning a shank about as long as that of the next larger size, and the wire thickness falls nearest standard I.

No label states shank length, wire gauge or gap P. The photographs carry no stated grid scale, so no dimensions are derived from them.

Pattern history and manufacturer context

Series

The 3101 is documented here in sizes 2 and 9/0 P. No catalog, price list or collector reference for the model has been located, so its introduction year, production run and end date are undocumented.

Dating

Both labels print OSLO. Oslo became the city's name on 1 January 1925 V, so labels that print it date to 1925 or later I. Neither label carries a barcode P. No dated source for the end of this packaging has been located.

Two sizes and two Key Brand label typesettings are documented; no recorded sale, catalog listing or count of surviving examples is available to place the model higher or lower.

The 3101 is documented through two Key Brand label typesettings and two sizes, 2 and 9/0 P.

No recorded sale, catalog listing or count of surviving examples is available. The page therefore gives no scarcity figure beyond the rating.

Insufficient recorded sales data to estimate a reliable value.

0 sold observations recorded; 2 are needed, with the basis and date of the range, before a value is shown. Asking prices are shown as asking prices only.

No sold results are recorded for the 3101, so no value range is established.
