IMG-1Partridge — New entry — image 1 Lid of the size 16 box. The pasted label reads '4 x FINE FORGED / REDDITCH BEND / TURNED DOWN EYE'; no maker name or model code appears.
2How to identify it
The lid carries a pasted cream-white label with rounded corners at its center. It prints three lines: ‘4 x FINE FORGED’, ‘REDDITCH BEND’ and ‘TURNED DOWN EYE’, with a lowercase x between the 4 and FINE P.
A violet 16 is stamped at the upper left of the lid. It looks stamped but could be hand-applied P. No maker name, trademark, or model code appears on the lid or label P.
A website listing of Partridge dry fly hooks uses ‘Redditch’ as the bend name for forged 4X fine hooks V. That is consistent with a Partridge origin I but does not establish one.
Dark brown to bronze-gold metallic finish with brassy highlights on the upper shank and bend P. Small orange-brown spots near the barb may be wear or oxidation.
OBS-6
The label’s ‘4 x FINE’ and ‘FORGED’ are the only statements of wire size and construction P. The size 16 specimen has a plain, straight shank with no ridges, kinks, curve, or microbarbs, and a long, slender, tapering point P.
Compared with the silhouettes of other hooks in this catalog, its shank proportion falls nearest the standard group E. Its wire thickness falls nearest the heavy group E, which differs from the label’s ‘4 x FINE’. No caliper measurement exists to settle the difference.
The side view cannot show whether the point is offset.

Layout
Pasted label at the center of the lid, three lines of text. A violet numeral is stamped separately at the upper left of the lid.
Printed marks
Violet 16 at the upper left of the lid; it looks stamped but could be hand-applied.
The label states no application. The Hooper E1A and E6A, described as 4X fine hooks with a forged Redditch bend, are listed as dry fly hooks in a website listing of Partridge hooks V. A dry fly application is therefore probable for this label I.
