How to identify it

The lid carries FALCON KIRBY in an arched title above a bird of prey, with FISH and HOOKS either side of it and 100 beneath each P. A centred block below reads HIGHEST QUALITY, UNIFORM IN SIZE and FILED POINT ~ RINGED. The bottom line reads ASSORTED, X139A and JAPAN P.

The side panel repeats the name and adds 100, BRONZED and RUST PROOF P. The photographed hook shows no stamped marking on the shank or eye P.

A dealer lists a Falcon Kirby box with the same wording and the code X139A V. A Keystone Kirby box from Japan, coded X 139B, uses the same filed-point and ringed wording V. Check both the brand name and the code.

A current manufacturer’s guide describes Kirby hooks as having a round bend and an offset point V. In this reference, a kirbed point is offset to the left, seen from the eye looking down the shank.

The name Kirby is printed as the product name on the box P. No source located ties X139A to an earlier pattern or a named maker.
