IMG-1Milward — New entry — image 1 Lid of a box of Kirby Whiting Hooks with the green label and Iron Arm trademark. The size, 2, is written by hand after the printed No.
2How to identify it
The lid carries a green paper label with a printed border. The upper right block reads H. MILWARD & SONS, then the town and England, then Qual. 3382. KIRBY WHITING HOOKS runs across the center in bold capitals, with Tinned, Ringed in italic below.
The trademark is a line drawing of a bent arm with a banded cuff, the hand raised, resting on a striped bar. Trade Mark is printed beside it and The Iron Arm beneath. The bottom line reads 100 No., with the size added by hand, and MADE IN ENGLAND at the right.
The box label prints Tinned P. The photographed hook is silver-grey with darker mottled patches, heaviest at the eye and bend, consistent with a tinned surface I.
The documented size 2 specimen has a straight shank of round section with no ridges, kinks or bait-holder cuts P. The point tapers smoothly to a fine tip in line with the lower arc of the bend P.
Shank proportion is nearest the Special Long group in the catalog comparison I.
Complete, with eye, shank, bend, point and barb present and no deformation or break visible. Surface speckling and darker patches are present, and fibres cling near the point.
